On April 5, 2010, after months of effort, a handful of council members in the Parish were finally able to get together and present their findings - which were unanimous: the water wasn't as bad as they thought it was. So, to celebrate, the council member and his entourage headed up to the lake where they proceeded to have what can only be described as an orgy of partying and drinking.
At what may have been around 1 o'clock in the morning, they were found by members of the community who alerted the authorities. The Parish and the Town are now being investigated for civil and criminal charges.
"I'm very shocked, I didn't expect anything like this to happen," said resident, Jodi Williams.
When asked if she was surprised the council members stayed out of jail, Williams said "yes. Absolutely."
Council member, Tony Thomas said, "We felt that it was better for the town [of] to be seen for this event and to put that behind us then have the council and this council to have to deal with what is going to come on our watch."
But the town doesn't plan to go away anytime soon. It is taking advantage of the situation to push out its council members -- including Thomas. He's said to be working to have the name "Tony Thomas" removed from the town's register and have him removed from the land.
Thomas added his reason for stepping aside for the remainder of the term. "[This investigation] is going to be a long-term thing for the town -- you know, to prove to people we know what we are doing -- and that they know we are doing something right," Thomas said, explaining to The Advocate that he is taking this as an opportunity to take a look at the town's "oversights."
"This is something that, you know, they are going to be paying for for the rest of their lives."
